Oh A Hiking We Will Go

So Saturday's around here usually involve sleeping in, long runs by myself, a lot of housework & laundry and town errands. We don't sneak a lot of fun into Saturdays. I want to change that, the kids are older and getting restless around the house. So we are going to have family outings each Saturday, nothing extravagant, just something outside the house and all together. So this last Saturday we took the boys on the Hauula Loop Trail. It is a 2.5 mile trail just down the road from us. We hiked it a few years back when Braedon was just a baby but haven't been back since. It was so much fun. Braedon was so excited too. He found a walking stick right at the start of the trail and was ready to go. During the hike he kept telling us "this really is the jungle!" It was so cute. His excitement ran out about 20 minutes into the hike, I don't blame the kid, it was all up hill, he was such a trooper though. He finally gave in saying, "I need a rest, my knees are tired" so we rested and then Jared & I took turns carrying Braedon & Jace. I didn't mind, I just told myself I was really burning more calories carrying around an extra 30 lbs! The boys, even Jace, walked off & on. We took several "rests" and enjoyed the views. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful backyard. It really is amazing to look into the "jungle" back there. At one point we looked up a geo cache on the GPS and started out to find it but Jace started to get restless and we decided to head back. The loop is great, you get the chance to overlook Laie & Hauula. The ocean is amazing from up there. I just thought, wow, we really are just on an island in the middle of no where! It took us 2 hours from start to finish, the boys did great, we didn't mind carrying them on & off. Braedon fell asleep about the last 25 minutes. We knew he was really asleep when he dropped all the long pinecones that he had been holding onto for an hour or so. Dont worry, Daddy picked them up and carried them out for the little guy. Overall it was a great family adventure and I look forward to what next Saturday will bring for us!
